Safety first
Safety Tips & Meetup Etiquette
Meshup is built to help people connect in real life through shared interests, communities, events, and spontaneous plans. Meeting new people can be exciting and rewarding, but it should always feel safe, respectful, and in your control.
Use these guidelines before, during, and after a meetup. Always trust your judgment and prioritize your personal safety.
Before you go
- Meet in public. Choose public, well-lit places with other people around.
- Tell someone you trust where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and when you expect to be back.
- Use in-app chat when possible so details stay organized in one place.
- Arrange your own transport so you can leave whenever you want.
- Check the event details before you go and make sure the time, place, and vibe feel right for you.
During the meetup
- Stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings.
- Be mindful with alcohol or anything that affects your judgment.
- Do not feel pressured to stay longer than you want.
- If something feels off, leave politely and immediately.
- If you need help, ask venue staff, security, or local authorities.
Event etiquette
- Show up on time or communicate clearly if you are running late.
- Respect the purpose of the meetup and the people who joined it.
- Be inclusive, kind, and open-minded.
- Do not pressure others into sharing personal details, social media, or plans outside the event.
- Handle costs fairly. If there is food, drinks, tickets, or bookings involved, be prepared to pay your share.
After the meetup
- Continue chatting in Meshup until you feel comfortable moving elsewhere.
- Share personal details only when you genuinely trust the other person.
- If the experience was uncomfortable, block or report the user.
- If a host or participant behaved inappropriately, let us know through the reporting tools.
- Your comfort matters more than being polite.
Online safety
- Never send money, banking details, or financial information to someone you met through Meshup.
- Be cautious if someone tries to move the conversation off-platform too quickly.
- Avoid sharing your home address, daily routine, workplace details, or other sensitive information too early.
- Be careful with links, payment requests, and any message that feels manipulative or urgent.
- If someone asks for money or behaves suspiciously, report them immediately.
Reporting, blocking, and emergencies
- Use blocking if you no longer want someone to contact you.
- Use reporting if someone violates the rules or makes you feel unsafe.
- If there is an immediate danger or emergency, contact local emergency services first.
- Meshup’s reporting tools support community safety, but they are not a substitute for emergency response.
- You can also review our Community Guidelines for expected behavior on the platform.
